Empowering Students Through Quizlet

Quizlet is a free quiz creator and study tool whose goal is to provide everyone with access to free learning tools.  In Quizlet, students explore topics in many ways by taking tests, studying from flash cards, playing review games, or go through the material step-by-step.

If you were to use the very easy search tool found on the page, you can search in Quizlet for just about any subject or even a school.  You don't even have to have an account to find information on Quizlet. Check out what happens when I search for Solon.

High School Spanish Teacher, Karry Putzy, has been using Quizlet for so long she no longer even sees this as technology in the classroom, it is now an essential part of her class.  Understanding vocabulary is a key standard in foreign language.  Ms. Putzy decided to give this program a try about six years ago when she saw a pattern of students not studying for class.  She has created quizzes to help her students study Spanish for every chapter and topic of her class. Using Quizlet, students can create customizable reviews that best fit their learning style based off of the content that Ms. Putzy has created.

To put her entire curriculum online was an endeavor when she began, and even enlisted student help, some who were hungry for Silver Cord hours, to assist in the process.  But now that it’s done, it is a big asset for her students.  Quizlet has so many different options students can choose from. Students can create flashcards or play review games to get familiar with these foreign words.  High School Spanish Teacher, Karry Putzy, has been using Quizlet for so long she no longer even sees is as technology in the classroom, it is an essential part of her class.  Understanding vocabulary is a key standard in foreign language.  Ms. Putzy decided to give this a try when she saw a pattern of students not practicing traditional study techniques like creating flashcards.  She has created quizzes to help her students study Spanish for every chapter and topic of her class. The students can create their own customizable reviews based off of the content Ms. Putzy has created.

It was an endeavor when she began, and even enlisted student help, some who were hungry for Silver Cord hours, to assist in the process.  But now that it’s done, it is a big asset for her students to personalize their learning.  Students can create flashcards or even play review games to get familiar with these foreign words.  One of the key components of this program for foreign language is that students can choose the audio option and hear the words being said aloud, and you can even choose different dialects.

It is a student-friendly way for her students to study because students can access the quizzes online or on a mobile device, giving them instant access to the material wherever they are.  Now that the quiz system is set-up, it saves a lot of time, not only for Ms. Putzy in terms of grading, but also for the students because they now get immediate feedback on their understanding of the vocabulary words. The immediate feedback can give your students guidance on what they still need to focus on further strengthening them as independent learners.
